Just received my VU-GPSDR unit. Assembled per instructions. Powered via VU-GPSDR USB-C connector with PD 100W PS.
Every time I run GPSDRPP the unit powers off.
Tried recompiling GPSDRPP from Github. Same result.
Any ideas why this is happening?
This is most probalby an insufficient power issue, as mentioned in the FAQ:
https://www.uugear.com/product/vu-gpsdr/#faq
PD protocol doesn't help here, Vivid Unit and its Extender only accept 5V.
Please check your power supply, what is the max output current for 5V.
We tested with the official 3A and 5A power supplies for Raspberry Pi without problem.
When I powered both USB-C ports the unit does not crash. Seems to be a power design issue, 100W is more than sufficient (5A @ 5V or 25W when PD not used) but system still collapses with a single USB-C power source on my unit.
GPSDRPP crashdump -

@teledatics We test the devices with only one power supply on the USB-C port on Extender, and we do not see any problem (with Raspberry Pi official 3A or 5A power supply).
We did see a lot of "power off" events like you mentioned when using power supply with lower quality.
That fact that you could workaround the issue with two power supplies also point to that direction.
I tested with two high quality power supplies, one 100W PD and one 140W PD (note: other folks have reported power issues in articles and reviews). Adding PD to the design with a DC-DC converter that accepts up to 20V would eliminate these issues IMHO.
Any input on the GPSDRPP crashdump? Am I the only one experiencing this issue?
@teledatics I'm having the same problem with several very capable power supplies. Your "connect power to both USB-C ports works for me too, but that's probably not the ideal for using the SDR in the field. I posted a similar topic right before I saw yours. Hopefully we'll both figure it out!
An update.... Using a very beefy USB-C to USB-C cable with a UGREEN 140W power supply I can run GPSRD++ with only one cable to the main VU unit. Now I'm going to see if I can find a 12v to 5v down converter that can supply enough amps to run the thing off of a 12V Bioenno LiFePo battery.
That last response was premature. It crashed again with only one source of power. Very frustrating.

Your crashdump is on application level, specifically an error when stretching an image for rendering. It doesn't seem to have connection with the "power off" issue.
100W is more than sufficient (5A @ 5V or 25W when PD not used)
It is not always the case. It depends on the implementation, some PD power supply limits the current when the device does not negotiate PD. A "dumb" 5V power supply with enough output current is preferred.
Moved GPSDRPP crash to a separate topic.
