Hello,
after implementing and testing successfully the schedule.wpi script, I found today, that the Raspberry Pi didn't executed a script after booting this morning...in the lab it worked fine, in the field not. The only difference between lab and field I can see so far is the temperature. I didn't set any temperature actions on the Witty Pi, but maybe there is a default temperature range for its operation? I think the Raspberry Pi can also boot at low temperatures in this range, but I will verify this in a climatic chamber or freezer.
Did anyone else see possible temperature issues with the Wiity Pi on a Raspberry Pi?
Many thanks in advance for any hint!
Oliver
-5°C is not very low temperature, and Witty Pi should work just fine.
Can't guess what happened without more information though.
The wittyPi.log file should be the first thing to check.
many thanks already for this information, then I can exclude the temperature and will check the log file as soon as I bring the device back from field.
Greetings and have a good day!
Oliver
I have the same problem. My Witty Pi 4 mini boots my raspberry pi zero 2 w just fine while on my workbench. But when I put it (timelapse contraption) outside (temp last night went down to approx. 40 degrees F), it will not boot the RPi. The Witty Pi's white LED is blinking normally. When I press the Witty Pi's on/off switch, the Witty Pi's red LED flashes once, very briefly) and does not boot the RPi. When the contraption is on my workbench and I press the Witty Pi's on/off switch, the Witty Pi's red LED comes on solid and the RPi boots. The failure is 100% repeatable. Once I bring the contraption back inside, it takes about 3 minutes for it to warm up to where it'll work again.
Unfortunately, I don't see any resolution in this thread.
My schedule is setup for the Witty Pi to start the RPi at 8am daily. My timelapse contraption was outside all night. This morning at 8am, the RPi did not start in spite of the 8am startup being scheduled according to schedule.log. And in wittyPi.log, there is no indication that the Witty Pi attempted to start the RPi at 8am.
@ddmcgrew I would suggest to check the battery/power source instead.
Many batteries can't work in low temperature.
And in wittyPi.log, there is no indication that the Witty Pi attempted to start the RPi at 8am.
The log file is written by Raspberry Pi, after it boots up. If Raspberry Pi does not boot, there is no way it can write any log.
Witty Pi 5 HAT+ has the ability to write log by itself, but Witty Pi 4 has not.
