Hi,
What is the best way of powering the MEGA4 USB hub with the WittyPi4? Connecting the MEGA4 to the RaspberryPI only will limit it to only little over 1 amp shared over all ports, which is too little for my usecase. In the WittyPi4 manual it was mentioned that one could use the VOUT and CATHODE pins, however I experience instabilities when doing this, even with no USB devices connected.
The WittyPi4 in this case is connected to a 12v powersource through the XH2.54 connector.
Any ideas?
I think the best bet is to connect a complementary power supply to the USB-C connector on MEGA4. If you want this complementary power supply to be controlled by Witty Pi 4, you may:
- Use Vout on Witty Pi 4 as the complementary power supply, given the power supply for Witty Pi 4 can deliver enough current
Or:
- Use Vout on Witty Pi 4 to drive a relay (or a MOSFET), which controls a seperated complementary power supply to MEGA4.
I experience instabilities when doing this, even with no USB devices connected.
Such instabilities are usually due to the insufficient capability of power supply.
