We are excited to announce the official release of Witty Pi 5 HAT+, the newest member of the Witty Pi family!
Witty Pi 5 continues our mission to bring real-time clock and power management functionalities to Raspberry Pi. Like its predecessors, it allows your Raspberry Pi to power on and off automatically, schedule tasks, and reduce power consumption when idle. It’s a powerful tool for time-sensitive or battery-powered Raspberry Pi projects.
What’s New in Witty Pi 5?
Witty Pi 5 is a major upgrade over Witty Pi 4, with a brand-new architecture based on the RP2350 microcontroller. It features:
- An emulated USB flash drive for configuration, logs, and scripts
- A USB serial device for real-time debugging
- A dedicated logging system that works even when the Pi doesn’t boot
- More flexible power control and schedule handling
- A completely redesigned firmware and software stack
Witty Pi 5 uses a different I2C address (0x51) and is not compatible with Witty Pi 4’s software. However, .wpi schedule scripts from Witty Pi 4 can still be reused on Witty Pi 5.
Witty Pi 4 is Still (and will continue to be) Available
Although Witty Pi 5 is now available, we will continue producing and supporting Witty Pi 4 series. There is no need to worry if your project depends on it.
