New Product: Ace4U is a cable-free USB hub for Raspberry Pi A+/3A+

Good day dear friends, today we announce our new product: Ace4U!

What is Ace4U?

We already have BIG7 USB hub for Raspberry Pi 2B, 3B and 3B+, and have Zero4U USB hub for Raspberry Pi Zero and Zero W, now we finally have a USB hub for Raspberry Pi A+ and 3A+: Ace4U!
Ace4U is a cable-free, 4-port USB hub for Raspberry Pi A+/3A+. It uses 4 pogo pins to make connection between the USB hub and Raspberry Pi, so no soldering will be required.

Ace4U can be attached under Raspberry Pi A+/3A+, and give you a compact piece of hardware:

You can also place it into an Acrylic case:

New Revision of BIG7 USB Hub

BIG7 USB hub is a 7-port USB hub designed for Raspberry Pi, and it allows your Raspberry Pi to connect more USB devices at a time. When using it with Raspberry Pi 3, you can use the 4 pogo pins (included in package) to finish the connection without using a USB cable.
Now we have a new revision of BIG7 USB hub. The newer revision looks very similar with the older one (see the picture below), and it introduces a new feature that allows user to turn on/off the power of USB ports via software or external switch.

From the picture you can see the new unpopulated pin header (P7), which contains ENABLE and GND pins. The ENABLE pin is pulled up to 3.3V by default, if you short it to the GND pin, BIG7 will cut off the power for all USB ports. This feature is useful when you want to save power consumption from the USB devices, or you want to fully reset the USB devices without rebooting the system.
You can connect an external switch to the P7 on board, and use it to turn on/off the power of USB devices.

You can also connect the two pins in P7 to Raspberry Pi’s GPIO header, and control the power of USB ports via software. The ENABLE pin is in 3.3V level, so it is safe to connect it directly to Raspberry Pi’s GPIO header. Below is an example that uses GPIO-23 (BCM naming) to turn on/off the USB devices. You can use any software or library to set the status of GPIO pin.

The new revision does not include the short USB cable in the package. The pricing is the same with the older revision.

The 7-Port USB Hub is Back with New Name!

Happy New Year everyone! We wish you all the best in year 2017!
Today we are glad to announce our newer revision of the 7-port USB hub, and this time it has a new name: BIG7!

What’s New?

Comparing to the previous revision, BIG7’s look doesn’t change a lot. You can see two more pogo pin holders near to the upstream port, which can install two more pogo pins to make data connection to Raspberry Pi (B+, 2B or 3B) without using a USB cable. As a result, your Raspberry Pi (B+, 2B or 3B) now have a very neat solution to increase the number of USB ports.

Considering the pogo pins need to connect to 4 points on the back of Raspberry Pi now,  we changed the crown head pogo pins to cupped head pogo pins, which is much easier to make the alignment.

New Product: Zero4U is Coming Soon!

About two months ago, we released our new 7-port USB hub for Raspberry Pi. Today we are going to announce another new product: Zero4U!
As implied by its name, this new product is designed for Raspberry Pi Zero. More specifically, it is a 4-port USB hub for Raspberry Pi Zero and it is designed to build Raspberry Pi Zero with 4 USB ports. This USB hub has 4 pogo pins on its back, and they will contact to the testing pads on Raspberry Pi Zero, if you mount them together, back to back. These pogo pins will establish the data and power connections between USB hub and Raspberry Pi Zero, so you don’t need to solder wires between them any more.

Zero4U: 4-Port USB Hub for Raspberry Pi Zero

The USB hub will take power from Raspberry Pi directly (via the pogo pins), and can output up to 2A current in total for all USB ports. There is a blue LED on board that will work as a power indicator (which Raspberry Pi Zero doesn’t have). Besides each USB port, there is a white LED that will work as data indicator. If you connect USB device to any USB port, its data indicator will light up.

Zero4U gets powered from the Raspberry Pi Zero, and powers all USB devices

Although this USB hub is designed for Raspberry Pi Zero, you can use it on other computers. Just use a USB cable to connect the mini USB port to the up-stream USB port, then it is ready to rock.
The price for this USB hub is 200 CZK (about 7.40 EUR, or 8.40 USD, or 5.80 GBP), and the package also includes the plastic nuts, screws and standoffs for mounting the USB hub and Raspberry Pi Zero together. At the time being, this product is not in stock yet, but we are working hard to make that happen. Hopefully it will be in stock in two weeks. If you want, you can back-order it now, and we will ship it to you as long as it gets stocked.

The New 7-Port USB Hub for Raspberry Pi

Dear friends, it has been a while not having news from us. Today we are very excited to announce our new product: the new 7-Port USB hub for Raspberry Pi 🙂
You may still remember that UUGear’s first product was a 7-port USB hub, which had been launched at year 2014. Comparing to the old version, this new version of 7-port USB hub is compatible to all Raspberry Pi models, including model A, B, A+, B+, 2B and the newly released Raspberry Pi Zero! This USB hub has the same size with Raspberry Pi A, B, B+ and 2B, and has mounting holes for different models of Raspberry Pi.

This USB hub has multiple transaction translators (MTT), which support USB 2.0 high speed transactions (480 Mbps) on each USB port. The 7 USB ports are symmetrically placed aside the 3 edges, giving more room for each USB port and avoid the collision between connected USB devices.
Two mountable pogo pins are also included in the package, and could be optionally used to back-power your Raspberry Pi when back-feeding from upstream USB port is not supported (Raspberry Pi B+ and 2B).

The 7 output pins on board could be used to electronically monitor the port usage status. They are in 3.3V level and can be directly connect to the GPIO pins on Raspberry Pi.

If you are interested in more details about this product, you can check its product page, or view its user manual.
The price for this USB hub is 480 CZK (~20 USD, or 17.7 EUR, or 13.9 GBP). It is in stock today and you can order it from our store.

Update on 2016.02.29:

Now it is possible to put this USB hub with Raspberry Pi together into an Acrylic case:

7-port USB hub for Raspberry Pi is temporarily sold out

The first batch of 7-port USB hub for Raspberry Pi has been sold out after 25 days since its official launch on 26th March. The stock is exhausted much faster than our estimation and our second batch is still under producing, so we have to mark the product “out of stock” for now. We are sorry for the break, and we will try our best to replenish our stock as soon as possible.
package_contentCustomers who have already placed their orders on our website will not get affected, and their hubs will be shipped as expected.

Finally Get the First Batch of USB Hub

1

We hadn’t released any news for quite a while, and today we have a very good one: the first batch of USB hubs finally arrived 🙂
It should have been there about one month ago. The reason for the delay is because we were not fully satisfied with the soldering quality and we insisted a full rework. Being picky is quite expensive, we definitely know that losing time means losing money. However we won’t take it as a lesson, instead we will keep working like that since we believe being picky on quality control will get great rewards in the future.

We still need some time to test the hubs (yes we test EVERY hub we have), so we could not immediately open our store yet. But with the hubs in store, we are quite confident that we could make the official launch in next week. The official announcement is coming soon!

USB Hub Design Finalized

After 3 iterations, we finally freeze the design of our first product: 7-port USB hub for Raspberry Pi.  The first batch of the PCB is under produced.
PCB
Due to the Christmas and New Year, the producing will be slow and even be postponed for some days.   We are expecting to deliver the first batch on February 2014.

Prototype of First UUGear Product

We will design and develop a lot of wonderful electronic products and accessories, and the first one in our blueprint is the USB hub for Raspberry Pi.
We are big fans of Raspberry Pi, and we do think Raspberry Pi needs such a USB hub to get better.  We designed a 7-port USB hub, which has exactly the same size with Raspberry Pi, and it could be mounted above/below Raspberry with two cooper cylinders.
The development of this USB hub has begun for a while, and today we received the first prototype of this USB hub.

We will test it extremely, and do our best to improve the design.  Hopefully we will see the final version at the beginning of year 2014.
