Hi,
is an upgrade to Debian 12 (bookworm) possible?
All I can say is that I truly hope your bookworm port comes out before it is no longer supported. I hope you process is updated so that making a port is a lot easier than it seems to be.
But in the meantime you could publish these issues somewhere other than the forums. You could inform people what OS they are going to be using, and how to update the archives to something supported at all. If I had known, then I would have known what I was getting myself into. I would have known I would need to recompile dozens of libraries so my code could work on the vivid unit.
Hardware is useless without software, and you need to make it very clear that you are shipping with deprecated software
@jockm This information is clearly listed on this page since day one: https://www.vividunit.com/download-system-image
UUGear did not advertise that the Vivid Unit included Bookworm or Trixie. The Vivid Unit was released in early 2024, at which time Bullseye was still under maintenance.
I want to emphasize that this forum only discusses technical topics. If you just want to vent your emotions, then this forum is not the right place.
@uugear I am not venting, and it makes me very sad that you think I am. Simply saying that your OS image is bullseye is very different that making it clear that bullseye isn't actively supported, that you can't do an apt update, that you need to take extra steps to use apt archives that actually exist.
I am advising you that you should ship with an image that has done that work, I am suggesting to you that clear disclosure is to your benefit. I have said I am disappointed in your lack of disclosure, and the fact that you think simply saying you ship with bullseye counts as enough in your book.
You make great hardware, I want to use it, but part of that is correct disclosure, right?
