I have two Pi4's one with WittyPi 4 having random start up issues the other is a WittyPi 3 has no problems. Both identical setup (except drivers etc)

Don't think it would be an ems issue as WittyPi 3 is fine.

Also log as some random text outputs.

Your Witty Pi 4 has firmware revision 0x04, which has a bug that may cause such kind of problem. The solution is to upgrade the firmware to revision 0x05.

BTW, it is recomended to pull down GPIO-4 to shutdown your Pi, instead of calling shutdown command. This way Witty Pi's software will be aware of the shutdown and put some lines about this shutdown in the log.

Those strange chararctors in log have nothing to do with this issue.
